Professional Organizer Meredith Brister, of Sorted&Styled, shares her top three tips for her clients to shape up their guest rooms!
Purge the Piles
I know I am guilty of this quick fix when company is over-the shoving of piles into the guest room closet! Meredith says, "Look, I don’t know what you’re keeping in that space and, odds are, you don’t either. If there are things you REALLY need but cannot find another place for, utilize a dresser or hope chest to house the times. Be sure to PROVIDE STORAGE SPACE for your guests. For example, give them at least 18” of hanging space. Maximize the vertical space of the closet." We're with her!
Smaller floorpans often call for 'double duty,' and if your guest room is your office too, you can quickly reduce clutter and create a more welcoming room! She advises: "There may be no other space in your home to act as office but you can make it feel like it’s guest room first, office second. File back paperwork, scan and toss receipts, in general tidy up. "
Meredith encourages her clients to think of the details that make their guests even more at home with these thoughtful touches:
+Put fresh sheets on the bed. If you have a have a sofa bed, open it up and make it.
+Make sure there are plenty of towels. If it’s a shared bathroom, leave the towels at the foot of the bed to show your guest they are clean and intended for their use.
+While you’re at it, provide some bath products, a few bottles of water (or a carafe if you’re fancy), a phone charger and a luggage rack.
